On 9 September 2026, the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons presented his report on cognitive impairment and the continuing exercise of human rights by older persons.
The Mission delivered a statement, given by Deputy Permanent Observer, Mr. Jean-François Kammer, affirming that cognitive impairment does not diminish personhood or entitlement to human rights, and that older persons must be seen as active members of society. He highlighted the importance of free religious expression, the Order of Malta’s health and social services for older populations, and the need for digital inclusion that does not create new barriers.
