148th Assembly IPU – Ambassador’s Intervention on interfaith dialogue

On 25 March 2024, at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, H.E. Ambassador Marie-Thérèse Pictet-Althann, Permanent Observer to the IPU and Head of Delegation, commended the IPU for its role in facilitating a panel discussion on interfaith dialogue.

The Ambassador highlighted the progress made since the 2023 Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Marrakesh and the subsequent Marrakesh Declaration, emphasising the critical role of dialogue in fostering peaceful and inclusive societies.

Furthermore, the Ambassador Pictet-Althann acknowledged the Sovereign Order of Malta’s engagement in discussions on religious freedom and combating religious hatred at the Human Rights Council, underscoring the importance of promoting diversity and faith literacy to ease tensions and counter extremism.

To conclude, The Ambassador expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Parliamentary Conference in Rome during the 2025 Jubilee Year, indicating the Order’s readiness to collaborate with the Italian Parliament and contribute to a high-level event, leveraging its extensive presence across 120 countries and institutional base in Rome.
