During the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Geneva from 23-27 March 2024, H.E. Ambassador Marie-Thérèse Pictet-Althann, emphasised the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering peace and understanding.
The Ambassador began by congratulating the newly elected IPU President, Hon. Dr. Ackson, and expressed appreciation for the Order of Malta’s collaboration with the IPU, especially on topics such as human rights, peace, climate change, and interfaith dialogue since becoming a Permanent Observer in 2021.
Ambassador Pictet-Althann also shared her experiences from the first Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Marrakesh, underscoring the synergies between religious leaders, faith-based organisations, and parliamentarians in promoting gender equality and youth participation.
The Order of Malta reaffirms its commitment to international human rights and humanitarian law, urging parliaments to contribute to UN processes for global progress.
