On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the General Debate on Item 7 of the 58th regular session of the Human Rights Council took place. This item concerned the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories and was led by the High Commissioner, Mr. Volker Türk. He presented a report covering the period from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024, in which he highlighted the continued violence, discrimination, and segregation against the Palestinian people, with Israel systematically denying its accountability and perpetrating continuous violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. The debate largely revolved around criticism of Israel’s actions in the West Bank and the Golan region, as most countries condemned its actions, particularly the expansion of settlements, forced displacement, and violations of international law. The delegations present called for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and accountability, urging the international community to cooperate and align against Israel in response to its violations. Mr. Yannick Galeazzi, First Secretary of the Mission, intervened in the debate to report on the blockade of humanitarian aid in the West Bank by the Israeli military. Moreover, he called for a ceasefire agreement and concluded by highlighting the efforts of the Sovereign Order of Malta to provide aid in the region.
