At the invitation of the Council’s President, many heads of agencies participated in the debate on Thursday 20th of June 2024 – Directors General of IOM, WTO, Secretaries General of WMO, UNCTAD, Deputy HC for Refugees, and Assistant Director General of WHO. They emphasised the link between the challenges each of these organisations face on these issues.
The SMOMs Counsellor Mr. Gregory Tutton highlighted the following points (which were much appreciated by the President): The Order of Malta and Malteser’s International, our global relief agency, has undertaken significant and concrete initiatives in climate resilience. Specifically, projects in Uganda, Kenya, and DR Congo were cited, focusing on enhancing resilience in schools and hospitals through a holistic ‘one health’ approach. Mr. Tutton expressed openness to collaborating with colleagues to expand these efforts in the mentioned countries. He also stressed the importance of aligning concrete climate resilience efforts with supportive legal and policy frameworks to ensure sustainability and effectiveness
