HRC61 – Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Environment
11/03/2026

On March 6 2026, the Special Rapporteur (SR) on Environment highlighted that the right to clean air is the basis for ensuring all other Human Rights, noting that 99% of the global population breathes polluted air and that armed conflicts have further worsened environmental conditions. Delegations emphasized the health risks, especially for children, the environmental impact of war and the importance of international cooperation in protecting the environment and combating pollution.

The Mission delivered a statement welcoming the SR’s report, emphasizing how in low and middle income countries, air pollution is escalating, thus exacerbating global inequalities. He called for urgent preventive and corrective actions to address the situation, and asked the Special Rapporteur how humanitarian actors like the Order can implement those measures, particularly in regions where refugees suffer from severe compromised air quality.
