On 30th June 2025, Miss Maria San Miguel intervened on behalf of the Sovereign Order of Malta in the Annual Panel Discussion on the adverse impacts of climate change on human rights. During her statement, she outlined the disproportionate nature of climate change impacts on affected communities. Miss San Miguel highlighted the commitment of Malteser International to a fair, balanced, and localised response mechanisms, as indicated by MI’s work in Columbia and Northern Uganda. To conclude, she called for the greater support of local communities in their development of resilient and versatile responses to climate risks.
