On 26 February, the high-level segment was followed by the general segment of the opening of the 58th session of the HRC. During the general segment, states highlighted many of the same issues as the dignitaries during the high-level segment.

An intervention was made by H.E. Ambassador Marie-Thérèse Pictet-Althann, Permanent Observer of the Order to UNOG. In her statement, she highlighted the crucial nature of respect for the rule of law and the Order’s steadfast commitment to multilateralism. Ambassador Pictet-Althann noted the role of new technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence, in improving the way humanitarian actors are able to function, and encouraged the HRC to continue its work on promoting its responsible use.
