Statement – Interactive Dialogue on housing – HRC 55

Silvia Vandi, First Secretary, spoke at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council on 5 March 2024, during the Interactive Dialogue on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living.

She highlighted the importance of addressing the resettlement of displaced populations following evictions, as emphasised by the Special Rapporteur. Vandi also mentioned the Order’s readiness to assist in developing principles and guidelines on resettlement for consideration by the Human Rights Council.

The Sovereign Order of Malta, facing these challenges in its global humanitarian work, advocates for a comprehensive approach to resettlement, including needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, and social integration, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Ukraine.

The Order’s efforts focus on providing shelter, necessary relief items, and facilitating the integration of displaced persons.
